You are NOT Alone by Erika Harvey

not alone

Every one of us wants to know what our life holds and how we are going to fulfill it. But I think a lot of us lay down each night and think about how our day went and then wonder what we need to do tomorrow and how it’s all going to work out. We may not even notice that we do this, but it creates this habit of continuously being afraid of what’s coming next. We want to know if our grades are going to be good enough, and if we’re spending the right amount of time in the right places with the right people. We want to know if and when we’re going to get married or have kids and if we’ll have the job we always wanted.  We want to know if we are doing the right thing so we can move on to the next.

Throughout the book of Revelation, it gives examples of just a few people and what it looks like to completely hand over one’s life to God. In Revelation 12:11 it’s then said “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death”. These individuals show us that there is a way to fight for God that seems to be possibly the piece of the puzzle that will help us let go. These people wanted God more than anything, even if that meant death.

I think we all long to spend this life building it with things from God, for they will then last forever!  We want to spend this life telling the story of our amazing creator and all the huge things he has for each of us.

All of this is so easy to scribe out in our brains or on paper, but it’s the act of living that life out that changes us. Intentionally walking and seeking God. I just know, with all of my heart, that this life is something that we are not capable of doing on our own, in order for it to be fully lived out.  If we try to conform and hold everything that we have in our lives in our hands, it will break. We will break. His way and plan for us is the only thing I KNOW that is the most fulfilling and is something that will never go away. We want to fight for all that he has for us, every single day.

I think of us as the woman at Jacobs well in John 4. This woman is in a really dark place, where everyone in the village has turned their backs to her because she was different.  When she first saw Jesus, she didn’t know it was him, and she kept questioning him about how in the world he was going to get this water without any tools and what this “living water” was he was talking about. But the thing is, God didn’t give up on her. She was looking for acceptance in the “wrong water”, because she continually had to keep going back to fill her bucket.  The amount of water she got every time was never enough, because she always found herself thirsty again.  John 4:28 says “Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did.’” She left what she had hope in, what she thought her life revolved around and believed, running to tell others the great news.

I felt restless. I was so tired and confused on why there was something inside me holding back. Maybe I might miss something. This life is the only one that seems to be legit and the one that seems the most worth living for, and I don’t want to miss it. Our one and only, amazing and true God wants a relationship with US more than anything in his world.  There isn’t a bus to miss but a relationship to either flee from or fall into by the grace of God.

I’m not going to tell you being a Christ follower while being in college is easy, because it’s the exact opposite. We wake up every day with a choice of looking at campus as a mission field or allowing Satan have us believe the lies our environment says is true. Being a Christ follower in college is lonely. But my heart is truly overwhelmed with joy and overflows with excitement that…

YOU AND I ARE NOT ALONE!

Tell me if I’m wrong, but I just really don’t believe that I’m the only one who feels this way.

Regardless, God will not put us in situations where we will be blind to him or in circumstances that we wouldn’t be able to do in His strength. He may ask you to do something you haven’t thought of or done before, but HE will PROVIDE and WALK with you every step of the way. You just have to open your hand, and let him hold and guide you.  This is a prayer that he WILL answer!

When we’re in those dark places and have no idea where to go because it seems like no one will understand or maybe that God’s just not listening…

When we’re in those days where the Spirit is quiet and you feel like the enemy is out to get you and is going to win you over…

THOSE ARE THE TIMES THAT HE IS BUILDING US. PREPARING US FOR SOMETHING BIGGER THAN OURSELVES. Something you specifically were made to do.

If your feet are on the gravel of the path that HAS BEEN PUT DOWN FOR YOU, and you know he is right by your side, walking with you: that’s where you need to be. God is NOT a destination.

I use to think I was crazy and way overthinking all of this.  I thought maybe I was “taking God too seriously”.

But I realize I’m not wrong.

What if we lived fearlessly?

Let’s live real, devoted, and pure lives in the glory for our God: the one who aches only for our hearts.

One of my favorite quotes ever is “never let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game.”  I think that’s an accurate perspective of how we live our lives. We’re always uncertain how it’s all going to play out. But the thing is that God overrides all of the rules that the world tells screams at us. There are no strike outs.

What if we stopped wresting with all of things that hold us back in our faith? Lift them up to God and just take the next step forward, holding Gods hand? That would turn everything around!  This also makes another point: this isn’t often easy. Here’s the thing though: the POWER of the RISEN SON is LIVING IN YOU. No one is exempt or ineligible from our Gods saving, grace, and love!

I believe that God gave us the things we do best and the things we love to do for a reason. To better the amazing earth that he has created and grow closer to him, together. And then to glorify him.

You are enough. However, we get to choose which way we are going to follow. His Spirit is free. We just have to stop being stubborn.

It took me a while to figure out what living my life, completely for God as hard as I could, would look like.  But even through it all, he was with me every step of the way. I want nothing more than to run to him as fast I can, and then never stop.

I think the thought of envisioning our whole and entire life being devoted to Christ can be very overwhelming at times. It doesn’t have to be that way at all.  Just live for today.

My heart cannot let go of the fact that the power of the risen Christ, lives within us! We have the power through Christ to purse the desires of our hearts and His heart ultimately creating a shared heart. Isn’t that just amazing? Isn’t that enough?

Let’s have our hearts praise and sing and live for no other name than Jesus.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE
